Jake’s Men’s Wear Loses Lease, Announces Quiting Business Sale

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The two-year run of Jake’s Mens Wear is coming to a swift end as the store has lost its lease and will sell its entire inventory in a quitting business sale that begins Thursday, owner Jake Toman said today.

“We had a year-to-year lease and a very fair short-term rate that went with it. We always had the understanding that if the owners found someone else for the property we’d have to be forced to move out on short notice,” Toman said. “We have 30 days to sell our entire inventory and close the doors.”

The store, located at 2818 E. Third St., will be open 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays during the sale.

He added, “One thing we are disappointed about is that we felt we’d really found a niche as the last store in town devoted to college students because we offered suits in the opening-price point range. We really focused on supporting the university and enjoyed working with some of the fraternities. I know we’re going to miss those relationships.”

Toman and his father, Ric, both of Fond du Lac, Wis., launched to store after the closing of K&S Men’s Wear, which had been in business about 15 years. While the store had local management, Jake Toman often worked at the store since its opening.

“We’ve been in business quite a few years together, always in retail, so we knew exactly what we were getting into two years ago when we said, ‘Let’s give it a try in Bloomington.’ We’re very happy the way things have gone,” Toman said. “If we could make one wish it would be that we could’ve been longer. But, we certainly don’t have any regrets.”
