2017 Iowa Ag Summit to address trade, energy, sustainability and the 2018 Farm Bill
DES MOINES, Iowa – Summit Agricultural Group, a leading diversified agribusiness in the Midwest, announced today it will host the 2017 Iowa Ag Summit on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines, Iowa. The event will feature, state, regional, national and international officials and highlight important topics affecting agriculture, such as trade, energy, sustainability, corporate mergers, the environment and the 2018 farm bill.
“There are pressing issues facing the agriculture industry today, both in our state and across the nation,” said Bruce Rastetter, CEO of Summit Agricultural Group. “The goal for the Iowa Ag Summit is to bring together agricultural, government and industry leaders to discuss how to keep our agricultural economy strong for generations to come.”
Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds, who will be an active participant in the summit, said the event offers tremendous potential to foster greater innovation, cooperation and success across the sector.
“Iowa is known worldwide as a leader in agriculture. It’s part of our legacy and remains a cornerstone to our future, especially in terms of a global economy,” Reynolds said. “The Iowa Ag Summit plays an important role in focusing attention on emerging issues which impact our state and nation. We are honored to host this prestigious event and look forward to the dynamic discussions which will take place.”
This year’s summit will feature unique perspectives from state, national and international officials on the diverse issues affecting agriculture today. It will include keynote speeches, panel discussions and agricultural exhibits, providing a platform for elected officials, public policy leaders, agri-business leaders and the public to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing today’s agricultural industry.
Rastetter and Summit Agricultural Group hosted the first-ever Iowa Ag Summit in March 2015, featuring one-on-one discussions on agriculture and economic issues with the field of presidential candidates.
“The first summit created an environment for a serious discussion among candidates seeking to lead our country about the issues that matter most to Iowans and Americans: how to feed the world and ensure that we have the strongest economy in an ever-more competitive global marketplace,” Rastetter said. “This year’s summit will continue that discussion with leaders from Iowa, the Midwest, Washington, D.C., and elsewhere who implement the policies that shape our current economic environment and the future we’ll live in.
